Necessary documents
18 types of identity proofs and 33 types of address proofs are accepted for issue of Aadhaar card. It includes PAN card, election commission identity card, ration card, passport, driving license, last three months electricity-water-telephone bill. If you do not have these documents, a certificate issued by Gazetted Officer or Tehsildar with your photograph on their letterhead is accepted as proof of identity. A letter bearing the name, address and photograph on the letterhead of MP/MLA/Gazetted Officer/Sarpanch/Tehsildar or similar officer is valid as proof of address. If everyone in the family cannot get such separate documents, the head of the family should obtain such documents in his own name, register himself and then register the other members of the family. Persons without any documents can also submit application for Aadhaar card with the help of the staff at the registration center.
Registration process
For Aadhaar card registration, the required application form should be filled and submitted at the registration center at the predetermined time or at any other time. This application form is available free of charge on the website http://uidai.gov.in/ or at the registration center. A list of registration centers will also be available here. Generally Aadhaar can be registered at e-seva center. The staff at the registration center will record your photo, handprints, iris in the computer. Also your information will be recorded in the computer. While filling the information, check it and make necessary corrections immediately. Once all applications are filled, this information will be sent to the central server and acknowledged. It is essential to maintain this receipt. Enrollment for Aadhaar card should be done only once in lifetime. No new card will be given for repeated registration.
To know the registration status
Before generating your Aadhaar number your data is checked with the data of registered citizens across the country. It is ensured that there is no repetition. Your Aadhaar number is generated only after complete verification and after registering for Aadhaar, Aadhaar card is sent to your registered address free of charge at home. If not, you can check the current status of the card by entering your registration number, time and date of registration at the website https://resident.uidai.net.in/check-aadhaar-status or at the registration center. Also you get Aadhaar number and e-Aadhaar card if the card is generated. Suppose if there is any error in the information you provided for Aadhaar card, your application is rejected and you are sent a re-enrollment letter. Then register again.
How to update information?
After getting Aadhaar card, some people change their addresses, change their mobile numbers, change their name after marriage. In this case, there is no need to take a new Aadhaar card. In fact, even if you try to draw anew, you will not get the Aadhaar card. Instead, there is an option to amend the information in the old Aadhaar card. For that visit the website https://resident.uidai.net.in/update-data. Mention your Aadhaar number there. After that, a password will be sent to the mobile registered by you at the time of Aadhaar registration. Mention that password on the website. Then select the information you want to change. Fill your details again and upload the documents for proof on the website. You can check the status of changes to your information by visiting the above website. Individuals who do not wish to update through the website can also modify the information by sending an application by post.
